The Sunyani High Court Two has restrained the New Patriotic Party (NPP) from conducting its constituency executive elections in Sunyani East.
Scheduled for Saturday, July 11 and Sunday, July 12, 2026, the elections were to offer the opportunity for the delegates in the constituency to elect constituency executives for Election 2028.
The order of the court followed a suit filed by Mr Maxwell Mahama and Mr Prince Baidoo Worae, aspirants who filed their nominations to contest for the constituency elections.
They were among the five aspirants who were disqualified by the Sunyani East Constituency Vetting Committee for various offences that breached the NPP's Constitution.
An order of interlocutory injunction signed by Winnie Amoatey-Owusu, Justice of the High Court, ordered the defendants from conducting the election pending the determination of the suit.
“It is hereby ordered that the defendants, their agents, assigns, privies, and anyone claiming through them are restrained from conducting the Sunyani East Constituency Executive Committee Elections scheduled for July 11 and July 12, 2026”, it stated.
A copy of the order sent to the Electoral Commission and made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani indicated that: “It is further ordered that this Order is for a period of 10 days”.
The defendants include the NPP, Isaac Osei, Theophilus Asomah Kyere, John Nketia, Edwin Kofi Dartey, I K Amankwaah, and Felicia Appiah, all in Sunyani.
