Order A-G to give me access to Abu Trica to know his whereabout – Lawyer tells court

Legal practitioner Oliver Barker-Vormawor, counsel for Frederick Kumi, popularly known as “Abu Trica,” has made an oral application at the High Court in Accra seeking an order compelling the Attorney General to grant him access to his client.

The application follows the court’s decision ordering Kumi’s extradition to the United States, where he is expected to face charges in connection with an alleged $8 million romance scam case.

When the matter was called on July 6, counsel informed the court that despite the extradition order, the current whereabouts of his client remained unclear.

“We still don't know where our client is being held,” he told the court.

He added that a formal request had been sent to the Attorney General seeking access to his client, but no response had been received.

The court subsequently stood down the case to allow the Attorney General to respond before making a ruling on the application.

Meanwhile, the motion filed by the defence seeking a stay of execution of the extradition order has been adjourned to July 9, 2026.

Kumi was re-arrested after the High Court dismissed his legal challenge against the extradition order, with security officials taking him into custody immediately to facilitate the process. His legal team has indicated plans to escalate the matter to the Supreme Court.
