The government has increased the daily feeding grant for students in special schools across the country from GH¢8 to GH¢15 per child.
The adjustment, announced by the Minister for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, takes immediate effect and is expected to improve the quality of meals provided to children in special needs institutions.
The minister announced the new feeding rate during a media briefing in Accra on Thursday, July 2.
He described the increment as part of the Mahama administration's efforts to strengthen support for vulnerable learners.
"As many of you may recall, the feeding fee used to be at eight cedis. The government of President Mahama has also further increased that to 15 cedis, so feeding now in all special needs schools across the country should be 15 Cedis," said the minister.
He explained that the revised grant is effective immediately and directed all special schools to comply with the new rate.
"Implementation is effective immediately from today... From today, no student should be fed in a special needs institution on less than 15 cedis. So note the adjustment," he stated.
