National Ambulance Service equips students with lifesaving first aid training

Students and staff of Impact Hub Academy in Dzolokpuita, Volta Region, have been strengthened in their emergency response skills after participating in a practical first aid and emergency medical education programme organised by the National Ambulance Service (NAS).

The initiative placed strong emphasis on equipping participants with the knowledge and confidence to respond effectively to emergencies before professional medical help arrives.

Through practical demonstrations, ambulance personnel trained participants to manage common injuries and provide immediate care during medical emergencies, through simple but potentially life-saving interventions that can help stabilise victims and reduce complications while waiting for ambulance crews.

The team also educated students on the appropriate use of Ghana's national toll-free emergency numbers, stressing the importance of activating emergency medical services promptly during critical situations.

Beyond the practical training, the ambulance crew introduced students to careers in emergency medical services, explaining the responsibilities of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and paramedics in delivering pre-hospital emergency care.

They encouraged students to consider careers in the field, emphasising the commitment, discipline and compassion required to save lives.

Management of Impact Hub Academy described the engagement as timely and impactful, noting that it not only broadened students' career aspirations but also improved the school's preparedness to respond to emergencies.

The National Ambulance Service continues to expand its public education and community outreach programmes, using schools and other institutions as platforms to promote emergency preparedness and foster a culture of safety across communities.
