The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with an alleged human trafficking and forced prostitution network operating at Gbane in the Talensi District.

The suspects, identified as Peace Agbede, Favour Sunday Udo and Faith Levy, are said to have trafficked young women and compelled them into prostitution under harsh conditions.

Four victims, all females aged between 18 and 20, were rescued during the police operation.

According to preliminary investigations, suspect Peace Agbede reportedly lured one of the victims from Nigeria under the pretext of helping her join the Ghana movie industry due to her appearance.

"Suspect Peace Agbede met the victim in Nigeria and promised to help her join the Ghana movie industry because of her beauty. The victim accepted and reluctantly followed her to Ghana," the police said in a statement issued on Wednesday, July 1.

However, upon arrival in Ghana, the victim was allegedly taken to a mining site at Gbane-Tongo where she was forced into prostitution instead of being supported to pursue a film career.

Investigators further revealed that the victim was required to pay GHS400 daily to her alleged trafficker, under coercive conditions.

The victim also gave birth on June 26, after which the suspects allegedly attempted to pressure her into selling her newborn baby for GHS 20,000 to an unknown buyer.

"The victim who had gotten pregnant gave birth on 26/06/2026, following which suspect Peace Agbede and her accomplice Favour Sunday Udo visited her and tried convincing her to sell the baby for Twenty Thousand Ghana Cedis," the police said in the statement.

A search conducted in the room of the prime suspect led to the discovery of six sales recording books with various names and 265 unused condoms, which police say form part of ongoing investigations.

The suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days.
