Dr Osei Adutwum condemns alleged illegal mining around Lake Bosomtwe

The Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has condemned reported illegal mining activities around Lake Bosomtwe.

He described the development as a threat to one of the constituency's most important natural assets.

His comments follow reports of suspected illegal mining operations in the area, raising concerns about the environmental impact on the lake, which serves as a major tourist attraction and a source of livelihood for surrounding communities.

Dr. Adutwum said he has already engaged the security agencies and other relevant authorities to halt the activities and ensure those responsible are dealt with.

"I have received with great concern reports of illegal mining activities around Lake Bosomtwe. Lake Bosomtwe is one of our constituency's greatest natural treasures. It supports livelihoods, attracts tourists, and is part of our identity. We cannot allow its beauty and environmental value to be destroyed by illegal mining," the former Education Minister said in a social media post on Tuesday, June 30.

According to him, the protection of the lake remains a priority, given its environmental, economic and cultural significance to the Bosomtwe constituency.

The former Education Minister assured residents that steps are already being taken to stop the alleged illegal mining operations and hold those behind them accountable.

"I want to assure the people of Bosomtwe that I will continue to follow this matter closely and work with all stakeholders to protect Lake Bosomtwe for the benefit of present and future generations," Dr. Adutwum stated.

He also called on the public to support efforts to safeguard the environment, stressing that protecting Lake Bosomtwe is a shared responsibility.
