THU, 18 JUN 2026

After months of inactivity, the contractor working on the Sewua Hospital road project has returned to the site to rehabilitate the stretch following years of complaints from residents and motorists over its deteriorated condition.

The 2-kilometre Sewua road is of significant importance because it provides access to the regional hospital at Sewua, which is currently about 90 percent complete.

The poor and largely unmotorable state of the road has been cited as one of the major obstacles to the operationalisation of the facility.

Appearing before the Asanteman Council on June 11, 2026, the Ashanti Regional Minister indicated that efforts towards the operationalisation of the hospital were progressing steadily.

Residents and motorists say the deplorable state of the road has had a devastating impact on their livelihoods, affecting movement and increasing transportation difficulties.

They have, however, expressed excitement over the resumption of work and are urging authorities to ensure the project is completed and not abandoned.

The assembly member for the area also expressed optimism that the project will not be abandoned this time, considering the pace at which work is progressing.

He also urged the government to honour its promise by completing the road and operationalising the Sewua Hospital to improve healthcare delivery in the area.
