Three people have been confirmed dead, while three others sustained critical injuries following a collision between a VVIP bus and a Toyota Sienta at Yikurugu near Saka, a suburb of Zebilla in the Bawku West District.
The accident occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026.
The injured victims were rushed to the Zebilla Government Hospital, where they are currently receiving treatment.
Jude Albert, a resident of Yikurugu who lives near the scene, told our reporter that he was awakened by a loud impact.
“I ran out and saw three lifeless bodies and three people struggling. We helped convey the injured to the hospital,” he recounted.
The driver of the VVIP bus, Mohammed Haruna, said he was travelling from Bolgatanga to Bawku to pick up passengers when the crash occurred.
He alleged that the driver of the Toyota Sienta dozed off, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the bus.
However, the exact cause of the accident has not yet been established, and police investigations are ongoing.
The District Chief Executives for Bawku West and Binduri visited the scene to coordinate emergency response efforts. The Bawku West DCE, Hon. James Ayamwego, described the incident as “sad and tragic.”
Police and other emergency service personnel remain at the scene as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
