The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MoGCSP) has commenced investigations into concerns over the quality and quantity of meals being served under the Ghana School Feeding Programme at Buaduyili Primary School in the Nanumba North Municipality.
The move follows complaints by parents and teachers who allege that pupils are being served inadequate meals that do not meet their nutritional needs.
According to the reports, the situation is negatively affecting teaching and learning, as some pupils struggle to remain active and attentive throughout the school day.
In a statement dated June 9, the Ministry assured the public that government remains committed to ensuring that all beneficiary children receive nutritious and quality meals under the programme.
"The Ministry wishes to assure the public that Government remains firmly committed to ensuring that all beneficiary children under the Programme receive adequate, nutritious and quality meals in a safe and conducive learning environment," the statement statement read in part.
It indicated that investigations had already been initiated in collaboration with the Ghana School Feeding Programme Secretariat to establish the facts surrounding the reported concerns.
The Ministry further cautioned that individuals or entities found responsible for any wrongdoing would face appropriate sanctions.
"Appropriate sanctions will be applied to any individual or entity found culpable following the outcome of the investigation," the statement noted.
The Ministry described the Ghana School Feeding Programme as a critical social intervention aimed at reducing hunger, improving school enrolment and attendance, and enhancing the nutritional wellbeing of children.
It stressed that any action that undermines the objectives, standards and integrity of the school feeding programme would not be tolerated.
According to the Ministry, the government continues to strengthen social protection programmes under its Reset Agenda through improved financing, monitoring and implementation mechanisms.
