The Deputy Minister for Finance, Thomas Nyarko Ampem, has stressed that Ghana's long-term economic growth depends on the active inclusion of women and young people in the country's development agenda.
According to him, government is placing job creation, skills development and enterprise growth at the centre of its economic transformation programme under the Resetting Agenda.
The Minister, who also serves as the MP for Asuogyaman, said made the remarks at the launch of the Ghana Women and Youth Employment and Social Cohesion (GWYESCO) Programme in Accra on Wednesday, June 10.
Speaking at the event, Nyarko Ampem said the government remains committed to creating opportunities that empower women and youth to contribute meaningfully to national development.
"Government firmly believes that Ghana cannot sustainably grow while its women and youth remain economically excluded. That is why jobs, enterprise development, skills training, and inclusive growth remain central pillars of government's new economic model under the Resetting Agenda," he stated.
The Deputy Finance Minister explained that the government's employment strategy for 2026 is anchored on five interconnected pillars designed to accelerate job creation and promote inclusive growth across the country.
He noted that the GWYESCO Programme forms part of a broader effort to tackle unemployment and create sustainable livelihoods, particularly for vulnerable groups.
According to him, the initiative is not an isolated intervention but one that aligns with the government's wider economic transformation agenda.
"GWYESCO is not a standalone intervention. It is part of a broader national economic strategy designed to move Ghana from underdevelopment and unemployment to productivity, as well as from exclusion to shared prosperity," he said.
The lawmaker expressed confidence that sustained investment in women and youth would help strengthen social cohesion, boost productivity and drive economic growth.
