Excitement is growing among residents of Elmina in Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem (KEEA) Municipality following recent developments surrounding GN Savings and Loans, with scores of people gathering at the institution's newly renovated office at Esuekyir to register their names as prospective customers should operations resume.
The growing turnout reflects the confidence many residents still have in the financial institution, which served the community for several years before its operations were halted. Men and women from different parts of Elmina have been visiting the premises daily, hopeful that the company will soon return to business.
Among them is Mena Ekua, popularly known as Susuan Hayford, a resident of Esuekyir, who described GN Savings as a lifeline for her business.
Speaking in an interview, she said the institution provided her with loans at affordable interest rates, helping her sustain and grow her economic activities.
"I was very happy when I heard about the Court of Appeal ruling. GN Savings supported many of us when we needed financial assistance. That is why I have come to write my name. If they resume operations, I will save with them again," she said.
For fisherman Shamo Quaye, the institution's accessibility and customer-friendly services made it a preferred choice for many residents.
According to him, banking transactions were convenient and efficient when the company was operational, making it easier for people to deposit and withdraw money without unnecessary delays.
"Many people are waiting for GN Savings to come back because it was easy to do business with them. We believe their return will benefit the community again," he stated.
Another resident, John Bassaw, recalled the employment opportunities the institution created for young people in the area.
"When GN Savings was operating, many young people had jobs there. If it returns, it will not only provide financial services but also create employment opportunities for the youth," he said.
Mary Kuofi, a former employee of the institution, said the closure significantly affected her livelihood. She expressed optimism that the company would resume operations and provide opportunities for former staff and customers alike.
Several residents also noted that the absence of GN Savings has affected traders, small business owners, and individuals who relied on its services for savings and financial transactions. They believe its return would improve access to financial services and support local economic growth.
The large number of people registering their names at the Esuekyir office highlights the continued trust many residents have in the institution despite its prolonged operational challenges.
Residents are therefore calling on the management of Groupe Nduom and the relevant authorities to work towards a lasting resolution that will allow GN Savings to resume operations and continue serving the people of Elmina and surrounding communities.
For many residents, the return of GN Savings represents more than the reopening of a financial institution—it symbolizes renewed economic opportunities, financial inclusion, and hope for a stronger local economy.
