The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has led a stakeholder dialogue between the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Concerned Citizens of Sogakope to address persistent concerns regarding power supply, customer billing, and service delivery in the district.
The engagement brought together the leadership of the Concerned Citizens group and key stakeholders to deliberate on challenges affecting electricity distribution and customer satisfaction. Chairing the meeting, Hon. Gunu provided a platform for ECG to explain the operational constraints contributing to recent service disruptions and to outline measures being implemented by both the Company and Government to enhance power reliability across the region.
During the discussions, members of the Concerned Citizens of Sogakope highlighted what they described as abnormal and estimated bills, including instances where customers who had been disconnected continued to receive charges. They called for urgent intervention to restore public confidence in ECG’s billing and customer service systems.

Responding to these concerns, ECG officials clarified the factors that may lead to billing discrepancies and used the opportunity to educate participants on the billing cycle, meter reading processes, and available channels for lodging and resolving complaints. The Company assured residents that all legitimate billing concerns would be thoroughly investigated and resolved.
ECG further announced plans to intensify customer education and engagement through customer clinics and other outreach programmes aimed at bringing services closer to communities.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. James Gunu briefed participants on Government’s ongoing interventions to strengthen the power sector and improve electricity stability in the Volta Region. He encouraged continued collaboration between stakeholders and ECG to ensure sustainable and efficient power delivery.
The engagement forms part of ECG’s broader commitment to maintaining open communication with stakeholders and fostering stronger relationships with customers through dialogue, transparency, and responsive service delivery.

In attendance were the District Chief Executive for South Tongu, Hon. Victoria Dzeklu; Divisional Commander ACP Emmanuel Ofori; representatives of DISEC; members of the ECG Regional and District Management Teams led by Regional Engineer Godfred Awuku; selected Assembly Members; and the leadership of the Concerned Citizens of Sogakope.
