Oliver‑Kevor quits NITA to pursue NDC Eastern Regional Chairmanship bid

The former Director‑General of the National Information Technology Agency (NITA), Dr. Mark Oliver‑Kevor, has resigned from his position to focus on his bid for re‑election as Eastern Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Describing the move as “difficult but necessary,” Dr. Oliver‑Kevor said his decision was driven by a commitment to sustain and strengthen the party’s progress in the region. He noted that the NDC has made significant gains through coordinated efforts, and maintaining that momentum demands his full attention.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, he admitted that stepping down from his government role was one of the toughest choices he has had to make, given its personal and professional implications.

“It was a very difficult decision, and one person who was affected most is my minister, Sam George. He knows the kind of work we have been doing and the systems we have put in place to ensure efficiency within government operations. I am sure he has not recovered from the decision I have taken,” he said.

Dr. Oliver‑Kevor explained that his departure from NITA would allow him to dedicate his time and energy to party activities, particularly as the NDC seeks to consolidate its gains in the Eastern Region.

He dismissed suggestions that his resignation was unusual, emphasizing that political practices have evolved.

“There is no issue with resigning from an appointed position if you intend to contest for a party role. We used to have situations where people were MPs and still held party positions. We have moved from those regimes to this one. Once the party has taken this new decision, I respect it,” he stated.

His resignation marks a significant transition from public office to active party politics as he positions himself to retain his leadership role within the NDC in the Eastern Region.
