The Volta Regional Minister, Hon. James Gunu, has facilitated a stakeholder engagement between the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and the Concerned Citizens of Sogakope to address concerns relating to power supply, billing challenges, and customer service issues in the area.
The meeting, held in Sogakope, brought together ECG officials, community leaders, and key stakeholders to deliberate on challenges affecting electricity distribution and to discuss measures being implemented to improve service delivery and reliability in the district.
During the discussions, members of the Concerned Citizens of Sogakope raised issues including estimated billing, perceived irregular charges, and cases where disconnected customers reportedly continued to receive bills. They called for urgent action to resolve the concerns and restore public confidence in ECG’s services.
In response, ECG officials explained factors that can contribute to billing discrepancies and took participants through the company’s billing processes, including meter readings and the available channels for lodging complaints and seeking redress. The company assured customers that all legitimate complaints would be thoroughly investigated and addressed.
ECG further announced plans to strengthen customer engagement through expanded customer clinics and outreach programmes aimed at improving public understanding of its operations and bringing services closer to consumers.
Addressing the gathering, Hon. James Gunu briefed participants on government interventions aimed at strengthening the power sector and improving electricity stability across the Volta Region. He encouraged continued collaboration between ECG and stakeholders to ensure more efficient and sustainable power delivery.
The engagement formed part of ECG’s broader commitment to transparency, dialogue, and improved customer relations through regular stakeholder interactions.
Also present were the District Chief Executive for South Tongu, Hon. Victoria Dzeklu; Divisional Police Commander, ACP Emmanuel Ofori; representatives of DISEC; members of the ECG Regional and District Management Teams led by Regional Engineer Godfred Awuku; selected Assembly Members; and leadership of the Concerned Citizens of Sogakope.
