Member of Parliament for Ofoase Ayirebi, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, has expressed sympathy to victims affected by the recent building collapse at Adenta, as well as fire outbreaks and flooding incidents recorded in Accra.

His comments come in the wake of the collapse of a two-storey building at Adenta Newsite in the Greater Accra Region during Wednesday’s heavy rainfall, which left one person dead and four others, including two children, injured.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) completed its search and rescue operation at 10:54 p.m. on June 3, after responding to the distress call and deploying personnel from multiple stations to the scene.

The incident adds to a series of disasters in the capital, including a fire outbreak at Makola Market that destroyed several shops and goods, as well as flooding that submerged homes following heavy rains.

In a social media post on Thursday, June 4, Oppong Nkrumah expressed solidarity with affected families and called for improved emergency preparedness.

“This morning our thoughts and prayers are with the persons affected by the building collapse in Adenta last night and the fires and floods,” he wrote.

The lawmaker further noted that leaders must strengthen systems to prevent recurring tragedies.

“As leaders we need to better fund and manage the interventions required to give our people safety and peace of mind," he wrote.
