Anthony Yeboah, a Ghanaian football legend who never blown his own trumpet!

History as it is said always fervour the narrator and until birds learns to tell their own history,it would always fervour the hunter.

Anthony Yeboah is a Ghanaian former professional footballer. He is one of Ghana's prominent striker from 1981 to 2001. Tony Yeboah gained reputation for scoring spectacular goals which often featured in Goal of the Month or Goal of the Season competitions, often celebrated by wagging his index finger towards the crowd. Kwabena Yeboah,the president of Ghana sports writers association will described him in his famous Ghana television sports highlights program as Yegoaler because of his spectacular powerful goals then.

Tony Yeboah was a talented and successful football player, known for his stunning goals in the Premier League during the 1990's. He faced racism and criticism when he first joined Eintracht Frankfurt, but he overcame those challenges to become a cult hero and captain. He was the top Bundesliga scorer twice with Frankfurt, in 1993 and 1994 season.

In Senegal 1992 Africa cup of nations,Ghana lost the Senegal 1992 Afcon cup final to Ivary coast as a result of greediness and selfishness. Abedi Pele Ayew as our captain got a second yellow card against Nigeria in the semi final that denied him in the final. Tony Yeboah who happened to be our top star and was the only commercialize player to wear Puma white boot for the tournament was supposed to have captain the blackstars but a letter from officials from Ghana directed that,Tony Baffoe who is a new entrants in the blackstars should captain the team in the final when the team had senior players in the persons of Emmanuel Appiah,Emmanuel Armah Senegal and others. Kwesi Appiah was captain before the tournament which they took captainship away from him for Abedi Pele Ayew when senior players were there. There were little confusing in the blackstars camp but they never mind and when Tony Baffour was made the blackstars captain for the final game,alot of people suspected Abedi Pele Ayew was behind that decision of seeing the Ghanaians authorities then for the decision of not allowed Tony Yeboah to wear the captain band on the final match.

Few months after the tournament,blackstars had a friendly match against German National team. Tony Yeboah who was a big name in Germany then who was supposed to captain the blackstars for the match as a result of Abedi Pele delayed in arriving the camp early. Abedi Pele Ayew arrived few minutes to the start of the game when Tony Yeboah was already dress up with the captain band and asked for his captain band when they are already read to enter the field. Things didn't go down well with the senior players and Germany wallap us 6-1.

In 1995, Tony Yeboah and colleagues Maurizio Gaudino and Jay Jay Okocha clashed with manager Jupp Heynckes, which led to their departure from the club.

Tony Yeboah joined English club Leeds United from Eintracht Frankfurt for a £3.4 million price tag in January 1995. In his second season at Elland Road, he was voted Player of the Year; the club's first-ever non-British Player of the Year. He scored a total of 32 goals for Leeds United in 66 appearances, and is still revered as a cult hero for the Yorkshire club due to a series of memorable goals he scored.

Tony Yeboah volley against Liverpool, and his strike versus Wimbledon in the 1995–96 season were among his notable goals and he was a regular feature in Goal of the Month in the Premier League.

My favourite goal was the one he scored against Liverpool. The goal against Wimbledon was also awarded Goal of the Season in 1995–96.

He also scored three hat-tricks for Leeds; the first against Ipswich Town in the Premier League at Elland Road on 5th April 1995,my birthday, the second against Monaco in the 1995–96 UEFA Cup on 12th September 1995, and the third 11 days later in a Premier League match against Wimbledon at Selhurst Park.

Tony Yeboah left Ghana after he played for Cornerstones Kumasi, Okwawu United to joined German club FC Saarbrücken in 1988; this move was of some historical significance as Yeboah became one of the first black players to appear in the Bundesliga which was dominated by white players.

Yeboah is most noted for his time at Eintracht Frankfurt, Leeds United and Hamburger SV during the 1990's and later Al-Ittihad Doha.

Injuries restricted his game when he played and kept him out of the Leeds side on several occasions. When George Graham took over as manager, there was a clash of personalities and Yeboah was sold to Hamburger SV in 1997. Yeboah left German club Hamburger SV in 2001 after 28 goals, in order to join Al Ittihad, where he played under Austrian coach Josef Hickersberger. In Qatar, Yeboah helped his club win the 2001–02 Qatar Stars League and the 2001–02 Emir of Qatar Cup.

Tony Yeboah was a member of Ghana's national team for over ten years, and represented the country at three Africa Cup of Nations during the 1990's. Yeboah scored 29 goals in 59 appearances for blackstars of Ghana. His goals were not spot kicks or push in goals but goals of a typical striker goals.

Tony Yeboah retired and move into a different direction of his life leaving matters of Ghana football. Hardly would one hear or heard Tony speak or interfer in Ghana football matters.

As the saying goes,a little truth is still bigger than a biggest lie. Tony!,you left indelible mark in your football endeavors. You are a role model to many football fans. You are a player who doesn't hate your former colleagues,you are a player who believed in togethers,you are a player who believed in team work. Some of us know,if you weren't that star player,you wouldn't have been in the team not to talk about been our striker in our starting lineup then.

You are a perfect example of a true legend! You are a perfect example of a true human being,you are a perfect example of a role model to many upcoming generations. Your name is written in indelible mark in the history of world football and no media propaganda and media twist we witnessed in the past against you shall stand the test of time.
