Empire Against Revolution: Cuba’s Defiant Stand Against U.S. Aggression

The latest attack by the United States against the Cuban Revolution is not about justice, democracy or “human rights.” It is yet another chapter in the long and bloody history of imperialist aggression against a small but defiant socialist nation that has refused to kneel before Washington. The outrageous accusation by the U.S. Department of Justice against Raúl Castro is nothing more than a political weapon designed to intensify the economic war, destabilisation, and psychological siege against revolutionary Cuba.

As the Revolutionary Government of Cuba correctly states, this accusation is “despicable” and based on the cynical manipulation of the 1996 incident involving aircraft operated by the terrorist organisation Brothers to the Rescue. The United States is attempting to rewrite history and erase the undeniable truth that these aircraft repeatedly violated Cuban airspace in deliberate acts of provocation. Cuba had every sovereign right to defend its territory, its people and its Revolution.

For decades, imperialism has treated Cuba as though it has no right to self-determination. Since the victory of the Cuban Revolution in 1959 under Fidel Castro, the United States has unleashed sabotage, assassination attempts, economic warfare, biological attacks and terrorist operations against the Cuban people. The current accusations are simply a continuation of the same counterrevolutionary agenda that has failed for more than sixty years.

The Revolutionary Government reminds the world that Cuba made repeated formal complaints between 1994 and 1996 to the U.S. State Department, the Federal Aviation Administration and the International Civil Aviation Organisation regarding more than 25 violations of Cuban airspace committed by Brothers to the Rescue. These were not innocent flights. They were calculated provocations backed by anti-Cuban extremists based in Miami, operating with the tolerance and protection of the U.S. state.

The hypocrisy of Washington is staggering. The same empire that invaded Iraq on lies, destroyed Libya, supports genocide in Palestine, and maintains hundreds of military bases across the world now lectures Cuba about law and sovereignty. This is a government drenched in the blood of millions, pretending to be the guardian of international morality.

The statement correctly points out that the United States itself would never tolerate repeated hostile airspace violations. After September 11, Washington expanded its military powers globally under the banner of “self-defence.” Yet when socialist Cuba exercises the same right recognised under the Charter of the United Nations, it is criminalised and demonised. This double standard exposes the true nature of imperialist “justice”: laws apply only to the enemies of empire, never to empire itself.

Even more revealing is the Revolutionary Government’s exposure of U.S. complicity in violent and terrorist actions against Cuba. For generations, anti-Cuban terrorist networks have operated openly from Florida with funding, political protection and media support. From the bombing campaigns against Cuban hotels in the 1990s to the sabotage of civilian infrastructure and constant assassination plots, the United States has acted as the principal sponsor of terror against the Cuban people.

Yet despite this relentless aggression, Cuba has not surrendered. Instead, it has built one of the world’s most respected healthcare systems, sent doctors across the Global South, defended anti-colonial struggles in Africa, and demonstrated that socialism can survive even under siege. From Angola to South Africa, Cuba stood on the side of liberation when Western powers stood with apartheid, colonialism and exploitation.

This is why the empire fears Cuba. Not because Cuba is militarily powerful, but because it represents an alternative to capitalist domination. A small socialist country that refuses to submit becomes a dangerous example for oppressed peoples everywhere. The blockade, sanctions and propaganda war are all designed to crush hope and prove that resistance is impossible.

The Revolutionary Government also exposes the grotesque hypocrisy of the United States, accusing others while itself carrying out extrajudicial killings across the Caribbean and Pacific. Washington has repeatedly used overwhelming military force, justified through unproven allegations and political convenience. International law becomes meaningless when interpreted by an empire that considers itself above accountability.

What we are witnessing today is an escalation of the campaign to tighten the economic blockade and intensify suffering among ordinary Cubans. The statement correctly describes these measures as collective punishment against the Cuban people. The blockade is not about democracy. It is economic warfare intended to starve a nation into submission. It is designed to create shortages, despair and instability in the hope that the people will abandon socialism.

But the Cuban Revolution has survived invasions, sabotage, terrorism and decades of blockade because it is rooted in the organised strength and consciousness of the people. The spirit of resistance forged by Fidel, Raúl and generations of revolutionaries cannot be erased through sanctions or media lies.

For progressive and anti-imperialist forces across Zimbabwe, Africa and the wider Global South, solidarity with Cuba is not optional. Cuba’s struggle is part of the broader struggle against imperialism, neocolonialism and capitalist domination. Every attack on Cuba is a warning to all nations that dare to pursue sovereignty outside Western control.

The world must reject this latest imperialist provocation. We must demand an end to the criminal blockade, defend Cuba’s right to self-determination and stand firmly with the socialist Revolution against U.S. aggression.
