Interior Minister, UNDP Resident Representative Discuss Peace and Security Collaboration

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has held discussions with the Resident Representative of UNDP, Niloy Banerjee, on strengthening collaboration to sustain peace and security in Ghana.

The meeting, held on Tuesday, focused on areas of partnership between the Ministry of the Interior and the United Nations Development Programme, as well as on the government's ongoing efforts to maintain national peace and stability.

Mr Muntaka stated the importance of coordination and collaboration between the Ministry and development partners such as UNDP in advancing the country’s security and governance agenda.

He briefed the delegation on key reforms, policies, and progress being undertaken by the Ministry, including ongoing digitalisation efforts, the proposed Community Service Bill aimed at reducing pressure on the country’s prisons, and the Parole Bill.

The Minister also highlighted the significance of the Peace Map and Peace Index initiatives in strengthening national peace and security mechanisms and called for continued support from UNDP to help advance the Ministry’s objectives.

He thanked the delegation for the visit and expressed optimism about deepening cooperation between the Ministry and UNDP in areas of mutual interest.

On his part, H.E. Banerjee expressed excitement about the Peace Index and Peace Map initiatives, describing them as innovative tools capable of enhancing conflict prevention and peacebuilding efforts.

He commended Ghana for its strong peace architecture and initiatives aimed at sustaining peace and stability, noting that the country’s approach to peacebuilding continues to serve as a model within the region and beyond.

H.E. Banerjee further lauded the vision of the Interior Minister for the security sector and reaffirmed UNDP’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, security and development in Ghana.
