The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection has reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening families and improving child welfare across the country.
The Ministry says strong and stable families remain central to national development and social cohesion.
It also noted that many households continue to face poverty, inequality and other social pressures that affect child upbringing.
The message was contained in a statement issued to mark the 2026 International Day of Families, observed on May 15 under the theme “Families, Inequalities and Child Wellbeing.”
The Ministry stressed that these challenges continue to undermine the ability of families to provide adequate care, protection and support for children.
“The Government of Ghana remains committed to strengthening families and improving child wellbeing through responsive policies, programmes and social protection interventions,” the statement read in part.
“Strong and stable families are vital to national development, social cohesion and the protection of vulnerable groups,” the Ministry added.
The Ministry outlined existing interventions such as the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty (LEAP) programme, the School Feeding Programme and various child protection policies aimed at addressing vulnerabilities.
It also highlighted efforts to strengthen responses to gender-based violence, promote disability inclusion and expand community-based child protection systems.
The Ministry called on stakeholders, including families, traditional authorities, civil society and development partners, to work together to build safer and more resilient communities.
It further emphasized the need for collective responsibility in ensuring that no child is left behind in Ghana’s development agenda.
