Former Vice President and 2028 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Mahamudu Bawumia, has held discussions with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation on issues bothering on democracy, human rights and economic development.
The meeting took place in Accra on Tuesday, May 12, and forms part of ongoing engagements between the NPP and the German political foundation.
The Konrad Adenauer Foundation is a German political foundation affiliated with the Christian Democratic Union (CDU).
It works globally to promote democracy, the rule of law, political education and market-oriented economic development.
It has maintained partnerships with centre-right political parties and governance institutions across Africa, including Ghana, where it has collaborated with the NPP on policy training, democratic governance and institutional strengthening.
In a social media post on Tuesday, Dr. Bawumia described the engagement as productive and highlighted the longstanding relationship between both institutions.
“Earlier today in Accra, I had a fruitful meeting with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, represented by its Country Director, Anna Wasserfall,” he wrote.
He noted that discussions focused on shared priorities, particularly strengthening democratic governance and economic development.
“The New Patriotic Party and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation have had a long-standing cooperation over the years, and our discussions centered on areas of mutual concern, especially on the promotion of democracy, rule of law, human rights and economic development,” he added.
The engagement comes at the time when the main opposition party has been embarking on numerous reforms to boost its chances ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Meanwhile, both the NPP and the foundation share ideological similarities rooted in liberal democracy, rule of law, and market-driven economic policies, which have guided their collaboration over the years.
