THU, 07 MAY 2026

Four nursing mothers and four pregnant girls are among the candidates sitting for the ongoing Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region.

The Public Relations Officer of the Wenchi Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr. David Baffoe, disclosed this in an interview with Wenchi-based Radio West Africa’s Nana Anfreh Damanata on Thursday, May 7, 2026.

According to Mr. Baffoe, the examination has so far been conducted peacefully across all ten examination centres within the municipality.

“The general conduct of the examination across all ten centres has been very orderly and smooth,” he stated.

He further revealed that 11 registered candidates were absent from the examination, made up of seven males and four females.

Explaining the reasons for the absences, Mr. Baffoe said one male candidate from Subinso was unable to write the examination due to illness, while two female candidates reportedly travelled abroad after registering for the exams.

“There was also a case involving double index numbers, which affected one candidate,” he explained.

Mr. Baffoe additionally disclosed that a total of 205 candidates under the Complementary Basic Education (CBE) programme are also participating in this year’s BECE in the municipality.

He expressed optimism that candidates would conduct themselves responsibly and successfully complete the examination without incidents.
