The Ghana Education Service (GES) says it is in deep mourning following the death of two Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates who lost their lives in a road traffic accident in the Upper West Region.
The students, Taufii Ibrahim and Abdul Khalid, both pupils of Charia Roman Catholic Junior High School, were reportedly travelling to Wa on Sunday, 3 May, to join other candidates ahead of the start of their examinations when the incident occurred.
Preliminary information indicates that the crash happened while they were en route, although authorities are still working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the accident.
In a statement, GES described the incident as a devastating loss, noting that the two students had bright futures that were tragically cut short.
The service extended its condolences to the bereaved families, the school, colleagues and the wider education community, and assured that it would collaborate with relevant authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly.
GES further indicated that it would consider additional measures aimed at preventing similar tragedies in the future.
The statement ended with a message of sympathy, praying for the peaceful rest of the souls of the two students.
