The Comptroller General of the Ghana Immigration Service, Samuel Basintale Amadu, has assured the public that Ghana’s borders remain secure, with no ongoing criminal activities detected.

He gave the assurance after touring the Dormaa and Sampa operational areas to assess security conditions and engage officers on challenges affecting border communities.

Speaking to the media at the Nkrankwanta Border Post, Mr Basintale Amadu outlined a comprehensive plan to strengthen border management through infrastructure development, improved logistics, enhanced personnel welfare and continuous in-service training, particularly in weapon handling.

He disclosed that the Service is pursuing the construction of seven new regional offices to improve administrative efficiency and provide permanent operational bases for officers.

“We need to have regional functioning offices. Sector commands are in rented premises and we need to correct that. As a result, my vision is to start and complete seven new regional offices before I retire,” he assured.

He also pledged immediate logistical support for frontline operations, including the provision of five motorcycles to the Nkrankwanta Border Post to boost patrol activities.

Mr Basintale Amadu further highlighted ongoing efforts to improve operational capacity through the acquisition of essential equipment such as vehicles and computers for both administrative and field duties.

“One car is not enough for border patrols. This government is working for vehicles designed purposely for border patrol duties,” he said.

On personnel welfare, he announced plans to establish a dedicated health insurance scheme for officers and their families.

“We are going to establish our own health insurance scheme for members to contribute to it and benefit when they fall sick. This will cover family members and desendants,” he stated.

The tour was attended by senior officers, including Deputy Commissioner in charge of Public Affairs, Maud Quanson, Bono Regional Commander Eric Quartey, Assistant Commissioner and Chief Staff Officer Gordon Saah, and Deputy Superintendent and Head of Protocol Barbara Sam.
