The Member of Parliament for Weija Gbawe and Second Deputy Minority Chief Whip, Jerry Ahmed Shaib, has called for urgent modernisation of Ghana’s judiciary through digitalisation and institutional reforms.

He said the justice system must evolve to improve efficiency, expand access to justice, and strengthen public confidence in the courts.

Speaking at the 150th anniversary celebration of the Supreme Court on Thursday, April 16, Ahmed Shaib emphasised that reforms such as digital systems and improved case management would ensure faster delivery of justice.

“Let’s modernize our courts, embrace digitalization, expand access to justice and strengthen legal education,” he stated.

The lawmaker further stressed the need for stronger collaboration among the three arms of government while respecting constitutional boundaries.

“Let us build bridges of collaboration between parliament, executive and the judiciary, each respecting the boundaries of the other, yet united in service to the people,” he stated.

The MP, also a lawyer, further noted that Ghana’s democratic progress depends on a judiciary that is independent, efficient and able to respond to the demands of a modern state.

Ahmed Shaib further urged stakeholders to protect the integrity of the courts and shield the judiciary from partisan politics.
