A 45-year-old driver arrested with suspected narcotic substances in Kumasi has denied ownership of the items, claiming they belong to his girlfriend and another woman.

The suspect, Foster Owusu, also known as “Master Pee,” a resident of Pankrono in the Ashanti Region, was arrested after allegedly attempting to flee upon spotting police officers in his community.

According to a police statement, officers from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit in Kumasi carried out a targeted operation in Pankrono on April 5, 2026, as part of efforts to clamp down on illicit drug activities.

During the operation, the suspect was seen locking up a single room facility and trying to escape, but he was quickly apprehended.

A search conducted in the room around 7 p.m. uncovered 39 compressed parcels of dried leaves wrapped in sellotape and concealed in a Ghana Must Go bag, as well as 10 additional parcels hidden in a black sack. The substances are suspected to be narcotic drugs.

In his cautioned statement, Owusu denied any connection to the items, insisting that the room belonged to his girlfriend, identified as Anita, and another woman named Cindy. He told investigators he had visited the location but found them absent, adding that he had no knowledge of the substances found.

Police indicated that the exhibits were properly sealed and labeled in the presence of the suspect and an independent witness.

The Ashanti Regional Police Command says the suspect remains in custody assisting with investigations, while efforts are ongoing to locate the two women mentioned.

The suspected substances will be sent to the Police Forensic Science Laboratory in Accra for examination and confirmation.

The Police have reiterated their commitment to intensifying operations against drug related crimes and have appealed to the public to provide timely and credible information to support their efforts.
