Easter has become one of the biggest tourism seasons in Ghana — Abeiku Santana

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Gilbert Abeiku Aggrey Santana, has observed that Easter in Ghana has grown beyond a simple holiday period and is now a key season for tourism.

He explained that the festivities now feature a mix of faith, culture, music, food, and adventure that draws people from across the country.

Speaking on Accra-based Joy Prime TV on Wednesday, April 8, the tourism advocate noted that what was once primarily a religious observance has evolved into a broader celebration that boosts both cultural engagement and tourism.

“Easter has become one of the hottest tourism season in Ghana, yeah, no longer a holiday… Now Easter is faith based, art, music, food, entertainment, culture and adventure,” he said.

He added that the transformation of Easter into a tourism season has created opportunities for local communities and businesses, attracting visitors who participate in events ranging from concerts to cultural displays.

"Hitherto, Easter was more of faith based activities… but now, because of the concept of tourism, we have appreciated that there are events coming here and there,” Santana stated.

Santana emphasized that the increasing popularity of Easter festivities highlights the country's potential to leverage cultural and religious events as major drivers of tourism and economic activity.
