The Convention People’s Party (CPP) congratulates His Excellency John Dramani Mahama on the passage of the Reparations Bill by the United Nations.
This significant development, aimed at drawing global attention to the inhumane treatment suffered by Africans during the Transatlantic Slave Trade, represents an important step toward historical justice. It highlights the need to acknowledge past atrocities and their lasting impact on Africans across generations.
The CPP is particularly proud of this moment because it reflects two core principles of Nkrumaism that have long guided our party’s philosophy and mission.
Pan-Africanism
A central principle of the Convention People’s Party is the commitment to identify, unite, and advance the well‑being of people of African descent across the world.
The actions of President John Dramani Mahama have contributed to renewed recognition by the United Nations that the crimes committed against people of African heritage—past and present—are unacceptable.
This acknowledgment spans the era of forced abductions during the slave trade, the years of segregation, the apartheid era in South Africa, and the ongoing racial discrimination faced by Black communities globally.
Social Justice
Another pillar of Nkrumaism is the belief that every individual—regardless of origin, colour, gender, or social status—deserves equal treatment and dignity.
For far too long, the world hesitated to fully recognize the scale and consequences of abuses committed against people of African descent, whether state‑sponsored or carried out by individuals.
With the passage of the Reparations Bill, the CPP believes that meaningful steps have been taken toward justice for our forebears, who were treated as commodities and forced into labour without rights, dignity, or compensation.
The CPP fully aligns itself with this cause and expresses its support for the efforts being advanced by the President of Ghana.
We extend our acknowledgment to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama for contributing to the long‑standing call of our ancestors to have their suffering recognized—their kidnapping, torture, dehumanization, and separation from their families and homeland.
The CPP also recognizes the courage demonstrated in amplifying the message that the lives of people of African descent matter and must be protected from injustice and discrimination.
As the party founded by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the Convention People’s Party salutes this historic milestone. It stands as a reminder that every person of African heritage can continue to rise against injustice wherever they may be.
