Mamprugu Youth Association demands justice for murder of Abdul-Aziz Iddrisu in custody

Mamprugu Youth Association has accused the Ghana Police Service of extra-judicially killing Abdul-Aziz Iddrisu, a 33-year-old citizen of Bawku, while in custody.

The Association claims this is part of a systematic pattern of abuse and ethnic cleansing against Mamprusis in the Bawku conflict zone.

According to Yakubu Nambe, who is the lawyer of the Association, Iddrisu was arrested on February 17, 2026, and later killed while in police custody.

The police initially denied holding him, despite a public statement confirming his arrest.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP) verbally disclosed Iddrisu's death to his lawyer, but no official statement or autopsy report has been released.

The Association demands an independent investigation, accountability, and an end to arbitrary arrests and persecution of Mamprusi youth.

According to him, Iddrisu was wanted for his alleged involvement in the fatal attack on police officers at the Karimenga barrier in December 2025.

However, his family and the Mamprugu Youth Association claim he was targeted due to his ethnicity and involvement in the Bawku chieftaincy conflict.

The Association is calling on President John Dramani Mahama and relevant authorities to take immediate action, including a transparent investigation, production of Iddrisu's body, and prosecution of those involved in his killing.
