The Minority Caucus in Parliament has demanded compensation for public sector workers whose appointments were revoked in February 2025.
The call follows a government review of appointments made after the December 7, 2024 general elections, which initially led to the termination of 2,080 recruitments, appointments and promotions across several public institutions.
However, a committee set up to investigate the matter later found that 1,539 of those appointments were properly made, while 541 failed to comply with due process.
In a statement issued on the occasion of Ghana’s 69th independence, the caucus described the decision as unfair and harmful to young professionals entering the labour market.
According to the caucus, the findings confirm that a large number of workers had no legitimate basis for dismissal and must therefore be given full redress.
The Minority is demanding the immediate reinstatement of all validated workers, the payment of withheld salaries and appropriate compensation for the hardship they endured.
The caucus also pledged to pursue every lawful parliamentary and legal avenue to ensure that affected workers receive prompt justice.
“The Minority demands, without equivocation, the immediate reinstatement of all validated workers, full payment of unlawfully withheld salaries and appropriate compensation for the hardship caused.
“Justice delayed must not become justice denied. The Minority pledges to deploy every lawful parliamentary and legal mechanism at its disposal to ensure full and prompt redress,” the statement read in part.
