Vice President Opoku-Agyemang Honors Fallen Heroes at 78th Anniversary of 28th February Crossroads Shooting

Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to preserving the legacy of its fallen heroes during the 78th Anniversary Commemoration of the 28th February Crossroads Shooting.

The solemn ceremony brought together state officials, members of the armed forces, veterans, and citizens to honour the brave patriots whose sacrifice significantly shaped Ghana’s journey toward independence.

Addressing the gathering, the Vice President said she was honoured to participate in the commemoration, describing it as a moment of reflection on the courage, discipline, and love of country demonstrated by the nation’s forebears.

Together with veterans who have served Ghana with honour and dignity, she reflected on the enduring values that continue to inspire national development and unity.

She paid tribute to Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe, and Private Odartey Lamptey, whose deaths during the historic 1948 incident ignited a chain of events that accelerated the country’s struggle for self-governance.

“The freedoms we enjoy today were dearly won and must be preserved,” she noted, emphasizing that their sacrifice remains a powerful reminder of the cost of nationhood.

As the nation honoured their memory, Vice President Opoku-Agyemang renewed the government’s commitment to building a stronger and more prosperous Ghana—one worthy of the ultimate sacrifice made by the fallen heroes.

The annual commemoration serves not only as a remembrance of the past but also as a call to uphold the principles of patriotism, unity, and service that define Ghana’s national identity.
