Is crap for anybody to suggest OSP has failed because of Ofori-Atta Red notice deletion — Franklin Cudjoe

Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa, has come out forcefully in support of Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng, brushing aside assertions that the Office of the Special Prosecutor suffered a blow following the removal of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta’s INTERPOL Red Notice.

The Red Notice was cancelled by the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files after it concluded that the request was largely political and did not meet INTERPOL’s regulatory standards. During its 135th session on February 4, 2026, the Commission found that the material presented by Ghana’s INTERPOL National Central Bureau fell short of the organisation’s requirements and ordered that the data be permanently deleted.

Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, February 14, Cudjoe rejected suggestions that the decision exposed shortcomings within the OSP. He maintained that the office had demonstrated competence by initially securing Ofori-Atta’s placement on INTERPOL’s wanted list.

“Anybody who suggests that the OSP has failed, and Ken Ofori-Atta’s lawyers are happy, is just crap. Who successfully got Ken Ofori-Atta on the list? It was the OSP who convinced INTERPOL to put Ofori-Atta on the list that he was a fugitive of the law. Ken Ofori-Atta is running away from accountability. Why?” he said.

Cudjoe accused the former Finance Minister of sidestepping accountability and criticised his failure to return to Ghana despite reported attempts by the OSP to trigger extradition proceedings. He also questioned Ofori-Atta’s effectiveness during his tenure, arguing that his expertise was better suited to an advisory role rather than leading the Finance Ministry.

“I still believe Ofori-Atta shouldn’t have been a Finance minister; he should have been an advisor. He never understood public policy,” Cudjoe stated.

He also dismissed claims by Ofori-Atta’s lawyers that the prosecution was politically driven, insisting that allegations of persecution lack credibility.

“If there is any history of persecution, it is the NPP which has persecuted people who died in jail,” he asserted.

The Office of the Special Prosecutor has since confirmed the deletion of the Red Notice and reiterated its commitment to handling corruption cases in a lawful, fair and impartial manner. The update was referenced in a public notice dated February 13, 2026, issued by Counsel for Mr Ofori-Atta, Justice Kusi Minkah Premo Esq.

In its final determination, the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files ruled that the Red Notice “appears of a predominantly political character” and does not comply with INTERPOL’s regulations, ordering its permanent removal from the organisation’s database.
