The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akuapem South, Hon Magnus Opare-Asamoah, has stressed that government continues to commit huge financial resources to the educational sector to make it more responsive to the needs of society.

“The recent inauguration of the new educational reforms vindicates government's commitment in this direction,” he noted.

He had therefore appealed to all stakeholders to take keen interest in the reforms since they had the magic of finding lasting antidotes to the country's numerous socio-economic problems.

The MP, who is also the Deputy Minister of Road Transportation, was speaking at the inauguration of the 50th anniversary of Adonten Senior High School (Adonsco) at Aburi.

He maintained that the theme for the occasion: “Promoting Quality Education through Infrastructure Development” fits into government's plan of providing massive infrastructure for all levels of education in the country.

He said government's resolve was that quality education should be in tandem with infrastructural development hence the huge capital injection in the sector to improve the human resource base of the country.

The MP commended government for its untiring efforts in providing Adonsco with a number of modern facilities since it had been selected as a model school.

“Again, the government through the Ministry of Transportation is constructing access roads in the school to improve the road network and accessibility,” he indicated.

Hon Opare-Asamoah disclosed that as his contribution to education in his constituency, he had instituted a scholarship scheme to cater for about 70 brilliant but needy students.

The beneficiaries, comprising basic school children, senior high and tertiary students, are being sponsored through the MP's Common Fund.

He said he had a bill of over one hundred and twenty million cedis to pay as fees for this academic year, and promised to sustain the scheme so long as he remained the parliamentarian for the constituency.

He urged the school authorities to entrench discipline, respect and hard work in the students to ensure their academic excellence.
