The Convention People’s Party (CPP) congratulates the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for adopting the novel strategy of electing their Flagbearer ahead of time.
As a party, we expected the NPP to acknowledge that this strategy was originally introduced by the CPP, the first political party in Ghana’s history to take this step.
The outcome of the NPP presidential primaries, however, comes as no surprise.
It was clearly signalled through various NPP‑sponsored prophecies and polls, confirming once again that the flagbearer‑elect was—and remains—the establishment’s preferred candidate, just as he was in 2023.
A recycled flagbearer whose government appointees are facing numerous corruption charges has nothing new to offer Ghana.
A Bawumia‑led party under whose watch our water bodies were polluted by galamsey operations and our forest reserves ravaged by foreign interests has nothing new for Mother Ghana.
A Bawumia‑led economic team that introduced drastic and unprecedented policies such as the DDEP—policies that inflicted severe losses on local investors—has nothing new for Ghana.
An economist under whose government several Ghanaian banks collapsed, resulting in the loss of thousands of jobs, has nothing new for the Ghanaian people.
An economist whose team presided over inflation rising to 23.8% cannot be welcomed as a credible contender in the 2028 elections.
An economist whose government failed to provide sustainable employment but instead spent millions of Ghana cedis on NABCO—with no lasting results—has nothing new to offer.
An economist who spent eight years insisting that Ghana’s economic fundamentals were strong until reality exposed the contrary has nothing better for this country.
The CPP cautions Ghanaians not to expect any novel or patriotic policy direction from “a mate whose driver steered the nation into the wrong direction for eight solid years.”
In the end, the NPP has simply recycled the same 2024 presidential candidate, Dr. Bawumia, to lead the same disunited and incompetent party into 2028.
