Eugene Boakye Antwi has cautioned members of the New Patriotic Party against deepening internal divisions as the party moves closer to its presidential primaries, warning that the current tone of attacks could damage the party’s future.

Speaking on UTV monitored by MyNewsGh, the former Member of Parliament for Subin constituency said the insults and allegations being traded among party members could return to haunt the NPP long after the internal contest is over.

According to him, what may seem like short-term political tactics could weaken the party’s ability to regroup and compete effectively in future elections.

“What we are doing to ourselves today will affect us tomorrow,” Antwi said. “These insults and wild allegations will not disappear just because the primaries are over. One day, we will face them again.”

He suggested that some of the actions fueling the internal wrangling may not be organic. Antwi claimed that certain individuals had been influenced by political opponents to stir confusion within the party and weaken its support base.

“Some people have been paid by our opponents to destroy the party from within,” he alleged. “Their aim is to weaken us so we cannot come together and present a united front in the future.”

Antwi also reminded party supporters that the five presidential aspirants contesting for the NPP ticket are not above the party’s grassroots. He stressed that none of the candidates is more important than the party itself.

“These five people are not more human than any party member,” he said. “They have been selected through a process, and at the end of the day, only one person will be chosen.”

According to him, the chosen candidate will carry the responsibility of uniting the party and leading it into the 2028 general elections. Antwi expressed confidence that the NPP has the capacity to return to power if it remains disciplined and focused.

“That person must bring everyone together,” he said. “He must have what it takes to wrestle power from the NDC in 2028. But constant internal attacks will not help us achieve that goal.”

Sir, can I ask you a question? What future does the NPP have that others are paid to damage it?
