The final funeral rites of legendary Ghanaian musician Daddy Lumba will be held today, Saturday, December 13, at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, following a decisive ruling by the Accra High Court that paved the way for his burial.
The court authorized the funeral after applicants in a protracted family dispute failed to raise the GH₵2 million required to sustain an injunction preventing the release of the musician’s body. In its earlier directive, the court had made clear that failure to meet the payment would compel Transitions Funeral Home to release the body for burial.
This ruling brings an end to months of legal battles that stalled the funeral and heightened tensions within the late musician’s family.
On Friday, December 12, lead counsel for the defendants, Dominic Osei, welcomed the decision, describing it as a relief for the family, fans, and especially Daddy Lumba’s children. He noted that prolonged litigation over a deceased loved one was both painful and unnecessary.
Mr. Osei urged Ghanaians to attend the funeral and honour the music icon, calling on fans to set aside personal interests and unite in celebrating Daddy Lumba’s life and enduring legacy.
He added that the ruling provides closure to a difficult chapter and allows the nation to bid a fitting farewell to one of Ghana’s most celebrated musicians. With the legal hurdles now cleared, Daddy Lumba finally goes home today.
