The Accra High Court has blocked plans to bury musician Daddy Lumba on December 13.

The injunction was granted after his maternal family filed a suit restraining Kofi Owusu, the family head (Abusuapanyin), from organising the funeral.

The court also barred Transitions Funeral Home from releasing the body until the dispute is resolved.

The judge said affidavits before the court showed the immediate family had been left out of funeral arrangements.

While acknowledging that delaying the burial may increase costs, the court stressed the need to follow due process and involve all family members.

The ruling confirmed that the family head can lead funeral preparations, but must do so in consultation with the immediate family.

The court ordered Kofi Owusu to convene a stakeholder meeting within three weeks to set a new burial date. It also directed that all funds raised for the funeral be kept separate from accounts belonging to the Daddy Lumba Memorial Foundation. The applicants were instructed to file an affidavit with the court registrar.

The case arises from disagreements after Daddy Lumba’s death on July 26, 2025, at age 60.
