Convener of Menzgold Customers, Fred Forson, is urging the Judicial Service to ensure a swift and consistent hearing of the criminal case involving the former CEO of the defunct Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah.
His call follows the Supreme Court’s decision on Wednesday, December 10, to dismiss NAM1’s latest attempt to halt proceedings at the High Court.
NAM1 is facing charges including selling gold without a licence, fraudulent breach of trust, defrauding by false pretence, and money laundering.
His attempts to stop the ongoing trial have been rejected by the High Court, Court of Appeal, and now the Supreme Court.
Mr. Forson said the delays have had devastating effects on victims, with many losing their livelihoods and others dying while waiting for justice.
He stressed that customers have endured years of uncertainty and deserve closure.
“We are very happy with the decision of the Supreme Court, but it has kept long. For almost one year, this application has kept the trial hanging, and now that it has been refused, our understanding is that the High Court can continue,” he said.
He added that more than 244 customers have died over the years, while many others continue to battle poverty, trauma, and broken families due to the collapse of the company.
According to him, a faster trial is the only way to prevent further distress among affected persons.
“I remember when we started before the prima facie case was determined, we were almost going on a daily basis. Now that the Supreme Court has given the go-ahead, we pray the court resumes daily hearings so that this matter can finally reach a conclusion,” he appealed.
Meanwhile, the case is expected to return to the High Court on December 16, where NAM1 has been directed to open his defence.
