Tourism Minister inaugurates GMMB Boards, calls for strategic leadership and accountability

The Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, Madam Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has inaugurated the governing boards of the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board (GMMB), urging members to provide strategic leadership and uphold high standards of accountability in executing their mandates.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony on Wednesday in Accra, the Minister described the inauguration as long overdue and a significant step toward strengthening the cultural and creative sectors.

She outlined the boards’ core responsibilities, including aligning programmes with national priorities, promoting transparency and good governance, ensuring effective resource management, and fostering strong stakeholder partnerships.

Madam Gomashie expressed confidence in the calibre of the appointed members and acknowledged President John Dramani Mahama for approving the nominations.

she urged members to lead decisively, emphasizing that the survival and effectiveness of the institutions largely depend on the quality of board leadership.

She expressed gratitude to the board members for accepting their appointments and encouraged them to demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and commitment to national service.

The Chair of the GMMB Board, Mr. Michael Attipoe, described his appointment as a privilege, noting that many Ghanaians were equally qualified and pledged that the board would work diligently to fulfil its mandate and would not disappoint the President.

In a related development, the Chair of the Creative Arts Agency Board, Mr. Anthony Obeng Afrane, who was also sworn in, emphasized that his role was not ceremonial but a call to duty hence vowed to lead with dedication and create an environment where artists are supported and empowered.
