Security consultant Richard Kumadoe has urged all agencies leading the fight against illegal mining to reassess their strategies and strengthen their operations before the year ends.
Speaking on Channel One TV’s The Big Issue on Saturday, November 8, 2025, Mr. Kumadoe said while the establishment of the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) is a positive step, its long-term success will depend on maintaining consistency and adapting to evolving challenges.
He observed that the operational structure of NAIMOS closely mirrors that of the now-defunct Operation Vanguard, which was also set up to combat galamsey but struggled to achieve lasting impact.
“If you look at the motivation of the NAIMOS team and the nature of their assignment, their work is very similar to what Operation Vanguard did. My only hope and prayer is that they will sustain the momentum and ensure their mission is fully executed,” he said.
Mr. Kumadoe advised all security and enforcement bodies involved in anti-galamsey efforts to conduct a comprehensive review of their operational methods by December.
“I strongly recommend that by the end of December, all agencies engaged in the fight against galamsey should reassess their methodologies and review their operational strategies. This will help them identify the real challenges and the resources required to sustain the fight,” he stated.
He also called for stronger collaboration among the various agencies and better use of local intelligence, stressing that unity and transparency were essential to addressing corruption and inducement.
“All the agencies involved must work together and integrate local intelligence into their operations. That level of cooperation will help eliminate issues of inducement and improve the overall effectiveness of the campaign,” Mr. Kumadoe added.
