The Kwahu West Municipal Assembly has announced plans to demolish all unauthorized structures at the Agbogbloshie Market in Nkawkaw, Eastern Region, following a deadly stabbing incident that claimed the life of a popular local musician last Sunday.
The decision, endorsed by the Municipal Security Council (MUSEC), forms part of a broader security and sanitation operation aimed at restoring order and preventing future violence in the area.
According to MUSEC, the makeshift structures and unauthorized kiosks within the market have become hotspots for criminal activities, posing serious threats to public safety and obstructing the free movement of traders and customers.
“The exercise is necessary to safeguard lives and maintain law and order. We cannot continue to allow such chaos in a public trading space,” a statement from the Assembly emphasized.
All squatters, traders, and owners of temporary structures have been instructed to remove their belongings before the scheduled demolition on Thursday, November 6, 2025. The Assembly has also cautioned that those who fail to comply will have their properties pulled down without compensation.
Municipal authorities say the clean-up operation is part of a long-term effort to modernize Nkawkaw’s major markets and improve security, sanitation, and trading conditions for residents.
