NPP Ejura NPP PC confronts Bryan Acheampong over fertiliser allegations
THU, 23 OCT 2025

Tensions flared in the Ejura Constituency when the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 parliamentary candidate, Gifty Ndomah, publicly confronted former Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr Bryan Acheampong, over his recent remarks about the alleged mismanagement of fertiliser distribution during the 2024 elections.

The heated exchange took place on Wednesday during Dr Acheampong’s campaign tour of Ejura, part of his nationwide bid to lead the NPP in the upcoming presidential primaries.

Ms Ndomah, visibly angered by the former Minister’s comments, accused him of spreading misinformation. She reportedly presented documents and testimonies to counter his claims that some parliamentary candidates mishandled fertilisers meant for farmers ahead of the elections.

Dr Acheampong, who also serves as Member of Parliament for Abetifi, responded by clarifying that he had never personally distributed fertilisers to NPP candidates. He explained that all government fertiliser allocations were channelled through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture’s district offices and not through political figures.

“The government cannot distribute fertilisers from the Ministry of Food and Agriculture to any parliamentary candidate on a political ticket. That is not how public funds are used,” he stressed.

He further explained that while local political actors might have some influence during distribution at the district level, ultimate control and accountability for the fertilisers remained with the Ministry.

“When the fertilisers reach the district level, your party being in government might allow some influence, but responsibility and oversight are not in your hands,” Dr Acheampong said.

The confrontation drew attention from party supporters and observers, underscoring growing tensions within the NPP as internal campaigns intensify ahead of the flagbearer election.
