The 2000 Year Group of Mawuli School is set to officially hand over a fully renovated “White Block” to the school authorities on Sunday, October 26, 2025, as part of activities marking the school’s 75th Anniversary and the Group’s 25th year of graduation.

The project, estimated at GHC 300,000, forms part of a broader legacy and community outreach initiative designed to honour the school’s heritage while demonstrating the alumni’s commitment to giving back.

The renovation of the “White Block,” one of the school’s most historic classroom buildings, represents a major milestone in preserving Mawuli’s legacy and improving learning facilities for current students.

Founded in 1950 by the Evangelical Presbyterian Church under Rev. Dr. C. W. Armstrong, Mawuli School in Ho stands as one of Ghana’s most respected second-cycle institutions. Built on the values of faith, discipline, and academic excellence, the school’s motto—Head, Heart, and Hand—reflects its philosophy of nurturing intellect, character, and practical service to society.

For seventy-five years, Mawuli School—meaning “God Lives” in Eʋe—has produced generations of distinguished leaders in public service, business, academia, the arts, medicine, and ministry. The Old Mawuli Students Union (OMSU) continues to sustain this legacy through mentorship, resource mobilisation, and infrastructure development.

Among the school’s earliest and most iconic structures is the “White Block,” built during Mawuli’s early years of expansion. It served as one of the first classroom complexes and became a central hub of academic life. Over time, however, the building fell into disrepair, with cracked walls, broken furniture, and leaking roofs threatening its legacy.

The Chair of the Media and Publicity Committee, Mr. A. B. Kafui Kanyi, described the renovation as a gesture of gratitude to the school that shaped their lives. “The ‘White Block’ was where our academic journeys began, and we wanted to ensure it continues to inspire future generations,” he said.

The renovation was executed in three phases—structural repairs and roofing, painting and furniture refurbishment, and interior modernisation to meet contemporary teaching and learning standards. The project, guided by the goals of preserving heritage, enhancing learning conditions, and inspiring a culture of giving back, is expected to serve as a model for future alumni initiatives.

The official handing-over ceremony will take place at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at the forecourt of the renovated building. The event will attract hundreds of guests, including the school’s headmaster, staff, students, alumni, community leaders, and dignitaries. It will serve as one of the major highlights of Mawuli School’s 75th Anniversary celebration.

As part of their 25th Anniversary programme, the 2000 Year Group will also visit the Ho Central Female Prisons on Friday, October 24, 2025, where they will donate assorted items, interact with inmates, and offer words of encouragement. The outreach aims to bring hope to the women in custody while promoting compassion and rehabilitation.

A member of the planning committee noted that the anniversary is not only about celebrating past achievements but also about living out the values Mawuli School instilled—empathy, service, and leadership. The Group emphasised that their activities were designed to make a positive difference in the lives of others, particularly those facing hardship.

The donation to the prison and the “White Block” restoration are part of a weekend of events that also includes participation in the OMSU 75th Anniversary Float through the streets of Ho and a 90s-themed social night for alumni to reconnect and celebrate shared memories.

Mr. Kanyi remarked that though members of the 2000 Year Group left the classrooms of Mawuli 25 years ago, the spirit of the institution continues to guide their actions. “This project is our way of giving back and ensuring that those who come after us have an even better place to learn and grow,” he said.
