The Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture, Mrs Emelia Arthur, has expressed interest in exploring opportunities with Norway, particularly in advancing sustainable fisheries management, marine resource conservation, and the development of the blue economy.

She said that when the Norwegian Ambassador, Dr John Mikal Kvistad, paid a courtesy call to her on Wednesday in Accra, he introduced himself following his assumption of duty in Ghana and aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Ghana and Norway.

Mrs Arthur expressed appreciation for Norway’s longstanding support for Ghana’s marine and fisheries initiatives.

The Minister outlined some of the Ministry’s key priorities, including the promotion of the blue economy, the implementation of the new Fisheries Act, and ongoing reforms aimed at ensuring sustainable use of marine resources.

She noted that the Ministry remains committed to building strategic partnerships with development partners such as Norway to enhance the capacity of Ghana’s fisheries sector, promote innovation, and improve the livelihoods of fishing communities.

In response, Ambassador Kvistad reaffirmed Norway’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and supporting Ghana’s efforts in sustainable ocean governance and fisheries development.

The meeting concluded with both sides expressing optimism about deepening collaboration to promote a resilient and inclusive fisheries sector in Ghana.
