A leading member of the Movement for Change, Solomon Owusu, has called for lifestyle audits to be institutionalised in Ghana following the seizure of a Lamborghini from dancehall musician Shatta Wale’s residence.
EOCO confirmed in a statement on Tuesday, August 5, that the Lamborghini Urus, retrieved from the singer’s Trassaco Valley home, is linked to a convicted Ghanaian fraudster currently serving jail time in the United States.
According to EOCO, the seizure forms part of a joint effort with the FBI and the US Department of Justice, who have requested the vehicle be repatriated as part of an asset recovery process.
Speaking on TV3’s New Day on Wednesday, August 6, Solomon Owusu said the case reinforces the need for lifestyle audits to track the sources of unexplained wealth in Ghana.
“I’ve said time without number that if we want to transform this country, then we must start with lifestyle auditing,” he said.
Mr Owusu also expressed worry over how some public figures flaunt lavish lifestyles online without accountability, which he says negatively influences the youth.
“Young ladies wake up in the morning, take pictures with cars they don’t own and post them online. It puts unnecessary pressure on others,” he noted.
“This is not to say Shatta Wale is guilty, but how he’s handling the matter is raising more questions,” he added.
