Three burnt to death in fiery motorbike collision at Manso Watreso

A tragic road crash at Manso Watreso in the Amansie South District of the Ashanti Region has claimed three lives, after two motorbikes collided and burst into flames in a horrifying scene that left bystanders helpless.

The fatal accident occurred on Monday, when two speeding motorbikes—one carrying two riders and the other with a lone rider—crashed head-on. Eyewitnesses say the collision triggered an immediate explosion, engulfing both bikes and their riders in flames.

Desperate efforts by nearby residents to extinguish the fire and rescue the victims proved futile. It was not until the arrival of officers from the Ghana National Fire Service and the police that the blaze was brought under control. By then, the damage had been done.

According to Kofir Mensah, Assembly Member for the Manso Watreso Electoral Area, one victim died instantly, while the other two, who were rushed to a nearby health facility, later died from their injuries.

Speaking to Channel One News on Tuesday, August 5, Mr. Mensah revealed that preliminary investigations indicate one of the motorbikes was transporting fuel, which is believed to have sparked the deadly inferno upon impact.

“The explosion was immediate and intense. The fuel is suspected to have caused the fire that trapped the victims,” he said.

Police have yet to officially identify the deceased, as investigations continue into the cause of the crash. The severely burnt bodies have been deposited at the St. Martin’s Hospital morgue in Agroyesum for autopsy and further examination.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the community, reigniting concerns over unsafe riding practices, the transportation of flammable materials on motorbikes, and the lack of emergency response infrastructure in rural areas.
