Interior Minister Muntaka condemns killing of Kusasi Chief, assures swift justice

The Member of Parliament for Asawase, Hon. Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has condemned the brutal killing of the Ashanti Region Kusasi Chief, Naa Abdul-Malik Azenbe, who also served as the Kaadi Divisional Area Chief in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.

In a statement, Muntaka expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family, the Kusasi community, and the traditional leadership of the Kusaug area.

Describing the incident as a heinous act that threatens peace and security, Muntaka assured the family and the public that security agencies are fully committed to apprehending the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.

He urged residents, particularly in the Asawase constituency, to remain calm and cooperate with the security agencies by providing any relevant information to aid in the investigation.

The Kusasi Chief was shot and killed by unknown assailants on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at approximately 8:40 p.m. near the Asawase F-Line Community Centre.

Two men reportedly arrived at the chief's residence on a motorbike, with one wielding an AK-47 rifle and opened fire before fleeing the scene.

Muntaka's statement emphasized the government's resolve to protect every citizen and uphold the rule of law.

The police have launched an investigation, with the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, visiting the crime scene and assuring the public of swift action to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

The late chief's body has been deposited at the Ebenezer Mortuary in Tafo for autopsy, and the police urge anyone with relevant information to contact the nearest police station or call emergency lines 191, 18555, or 192.

It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that I have received the news of the tragic killing of the Ashanti Region Kusasi Chief, Naa Abdul-Malik Azenbe, who also served as the Kaadi Divisional Area Chief in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.

As a Member of Parliament for Asawase and on behalf of the good people of the constituency, I extend my deepest condolences to the bereaved family, the Kusasi community in the Ashanti Region, and the entire traditional leadership of the Kusaug area.

This heinous act is not only an attack on a revered traditional authority but also a grievous wound to the peace and security we all cherish.

I want to assure the family and the people of Ghana that our security agencies are fully committed to ensuring that the perpetrators of this crime are swiftly apprehended and made to face the full rigours of the law.

We remain resolute in protecting every citizen and upholding the rule of law. I call on all residents, particularly within the Asawase constituency and its environs, to remain calm and cooperate with the security agencies by providing any information that may assist in the ongoing investigations.
