Furious members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Bomaa, a community in the Tano North Constituency of the Bono Region, have called for the immediate dismissal of Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Pious Opoku, accusing him of nepotism and abuse of office.
The demand was made during a charged press conference on Tuesday, July 15, held in front of the NDC party office. The gathering was convened to voice deep frustration over what they described as the MCE’s repeated appointments of his close associates and relatives to strategic positions in the municipal administration.
At the heart of their complaint is the claim that the MCE has sidelined competent and dedicated locals, instead favouring his inner circle for influential roles including the School Feeding Coordinator and NADMO Coordinator. The aggrieved party members say the actions of the MCE have created division and resentment within the community.
“Many of our leaders have been treated poorly, with some even forced to sleep in the bush due to the MCE’s actions,” said Hon Zack, spokesperson for the Bomaa Branch.
“We have worked hard for our community and believe we deserve better representation.”
Describing the situation as intolerable, the NDC members are calling on President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Local Government to take immediate action. They have issued a two-week ultimatum for their concerns to be addressed.
Failing that, they say, they will not hesitate to hit the streets in protest.
“We are prepared to take our fight to the streets if necessary,” the spokesperson declared. “This situation cannot continue, and we will not sit idly by while our community suffers.”
The group insists that the integrity of local governance in the municipality is at stake and that only swift intervention can restore trust and fairness in public appointments.
