The grisly discovery of human remains at a shrine in Mafi Gblorkope has provoked national outrage, with Central Tongu MP Mr. Alexander Roosevelt Hotordze and District Chief Executive Mr. Dodzi Addison Mornyuie condemning the act as a “barbaric and inhumane” affront to both morality and justice.
The two officials visited the scene of the crime on Tuesday, July 8, after police uncovered multiple skeletal remains during a targeted operation, including the body of 28-year-old Nelson Anyana, believed to have been brutally murdered for ritual purposes.
Calling the incident a stain on the conscience of the district, Mr. Hotordze assured constituents that the perpetrators would not escape justice.
“This is a horrifying and deeply troubling development,” he told the Ghana News Agency. He emphasized that justice must be delivered swiftly, not only to honour the memory of the victims but also to restore a sense of security among residents.
“I have tasked the security services to deepen their investigations and act decisively. This is not just about one life lost; it is about safeguarding the moral fabric and peace of our community,” the MP declared.
He urged residents to remain calm, cooperate with investigators, and resist any temptation to take the law into their own hands.
Echoing his concerns, District Chief Executive Dodzi Mornyuie condemned the shrine killings as “a stain on the conscience of the district” and a chilling violation of human rights and the rule of law.
“We must build a community where no one is afraid to speak up and where evil is not allowed to hide under cultural or religious cover,” he said.
Mr. Mornyuie called on traditional authorities and ordinary citizens alike to be vigilant and to report any suspicious or ritual-related activity. He pledged the full backing of the Assembly in assisting security agencies with their investigations and said no one involved would be spared, regardless of their social status or influence.
He also announced that the Assembly would be scaling up community engagement and public sensitisation efforts to prevent similar atrocities from occurring again.
Meanwhile, both the Ghana Police Service and the National Intelligence Bureau (NIB) confirmed to the GNA that three suspects have been arrested in connection with the case. Forensic teams are working to identify the other remains discovered at the site and to uncover the full extent of the crimes.
Authorities are urging the public to provide any credible information that could help advance the investigation and bring the perpetrators to justice.
