Donald Trump, who took office as US President on Monday, decided to remove over a thousand civil servants appointed by his predecessor Joe Biden from their posts. He disseminated this information via social media, as reported by the Polish Press Agency.
One of the first officials to be dismissed was General Mark Milley, the former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Mark Milley, who was a member of the National Infrastructure Council until Tuesday, was granted a precautionary pardon by Biden in his final hours in office.
General Mark Milley was criticized by Trump for his behaviour during the unrest surrounding the 2020 presidential election. Trump accused him of treason, as Milley is said to have assured his Chinese counterpart that the USA was not planning an attack on China.
General Milley expressed the opinion that Trump was a ‘fascist to the core’, which further aggravated relations between them. Chef José Andrés was also sacked. The man, who was honoured by Biden with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, had sat on the President's Council on Sports, Fitness and Nutrition, from which he has now been removed.
Trump also announced that he was firing former diplomat Brian Hook from the Wilson Center for Scholars and former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, who was appointed vice president for civic engagement and voter rights.
Trump's personnel decisions are part of a broader strategy by the new administration to put its own people in key positions. These changes are intended to strengthen control over the administration and implement the new president's policies.
