Two of Ghana’s most influential Christian leaders have thrown their weight behind President John Dramani Mahama’s upcoming National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving (NDPT)—a nationwide call for spiritual reflection, unity, and peace.

In separate meetings with the NDPT Planning Committee, Rev. Dr. Steve Wengam, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Ghana, and Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, General Overseer of Action Chapel International, offered strong endorsements for the initiative, which is designed to foster national healing and moral renewal.

Rev. Wengam praised President Mahama’s decision as a fulfillment of a divine promise, urging that the focus of the event should remain on genuine prayer over formality or speeches. He assured the committee of the full participation of Assemblies of God congregations nationwide, adding that prayer is essential in safeguarding Ghana’s peace, especially in politically charged periods.

Archbishop Duncan-Williams, in his address, described the NDPT as “a national demonstration of gratitude to God”, drawing parallels with America's long-standing Thanksgiving tradition. He commended the initiative as timely and necessary, especially given the unique interfaith harmony Ghana enjoys.

Highlighting the country’s longstanding Christian-Muslim cooperation, the Archbishop noted the need for Ghanaians to remain spiritually grounded in the face of growing global uncertainty.

Both leaders praised the vision and dedication of the planning committee, promising institutional support and calling on all citizens to embrace the Day of Prayer as a shared national responsibility.

The endorsements signal growing momentum behind the President’s spiritual initiative, positioning the NDPT as a landmark moment of unity and moral reflection for the nation.
